چکیده

We review state-of-the-art intensity-modulation direct-detection (IMDD) analog optical links, focusing on advances since 1990. We contrast direct and external modulation with respect to gain, noise figure (NF), and dynamic-range (DR) performance.

Design and Simulation of an Integrated Optical Ring-Resonator Based Frequency Discriminator for Analog Optical Links

The performance of a conventional intensity modulation direct detection analog optical links is limited by the high noise power associated with large optical carrier power. This optical carrier can be suppressed by using optical frequency modulation in conjunction with a frequency discriminator. In this paper, we propose a design of an integrated optical frequency discriminator, based on optica...

Sampled-Grating DBR Laser-Based Analog Optical Transmitters

Sampled-grating distributed Bragg grating (SGDBR) laser-based widely tunable optical transmitters are investigated for application in high-performance analog links. More than 45 nm tuning range, 40 dB sidemode suppression ratio, and peak relative intensity noise below 153 dB/Hz is measured. SGDBR lasers integrated with semiconductor optical amplifiers and electroabsorption modulators (EAMs) are...

Performance of the Wavelet Transform-Neural Network Based Receiver for DPIM in Diffuse Indoor Optical Wireless Links in Presence of Artificial Light Interference

Artificial neural network (ANN) has application in communication engineering in diverse areas such as channel equalization, channel modeling, error control code because of its capability of nonlinear processing, adaptability, and parallel processing. On the other hand, wavelet transform (WT) with both the time and the frequency resolution provides the exact representation of signal in both doma...
